Finally got to play Uncharted...

I'd been meaning to play this game for ages, and now that I've finally got round to trading in the abysmal Guns of the Patriots, I'm enjoying exploring the jungle-like settings of Drake's fortune.

As a number of reviews have stated, Drake's Fortune is neither original, nor pushing any boundaries. It is a textbook action adventure game. To me, it virtually defines the genre in it's purest form. It is also one of the most enjoyable games available. In a sense, fun factor is really all a game needs.

Games these days try to impress their fan bases with many bells and whistles: Extreme customisation options, comprehensive online modes, random additional features, etc. All things which add depth along with far greater time commitment demands. This is far from a bad thing, but it can become slightly tiresome when every new title tries to push interactive entertainment's boundaries.

Uncharted simply gives you a game to play. It's basic in concept: Several key characters, bad guys, a cracking good yarn, and water & explosions! It's a rare type of game these days. One that you can enjoy on a lazy Sunday, and indeed one that you can pause with impunity, without keeping your online comrades waiting while you use the bathroom...
